History
The vision for a church that looks like heaven has been developing in the hearts of our pastors for years. It wasn't until 2005, though, that the release came for the Hagan family to move to the Natomas area of Sacramento and begin to lay the groundwork for Mars Hill Church. A core group of families began to gather as they learned and embraced the vision and met on Thursday nights to plan, learn, and grow in relationship. Word spread about an exciting new church about to begin and the core group prepared for opening day.
January 8, 2006 was the official launch date for Mars Hill Church. That morning at Mars Hill was historic. As we came together as authentic family, the Spirit of God was present and we were able to celebrate as He changed people's lives. From that first morning at American Lakes Elementary, we have been blessed to be a part of God's plan for Natomas and redeeming power of His love. Our family has expanded and grown not just in numbers, but in depth and relationship as the year has passed.
On January 7, 2007 we celebrated our one year anniversary. That morning over 300 people gathered to worship God in unity and diversity. We continue to see lives changed and thank God for allowing us the priviledge to disciple believers. The future of Mars Hill is in God's hands, and we know He will bless our young congregation. Join us on a Sunday at American Lakes to see what God is doing this week!
our pastors
Scott and Karen Hagan are a team.
Visionary leaders for the 21st century, Scott and Karen are intent on inspiring and leading others to be difference-makers. Through speaking, writing and the planting of churches, they communicate a compassionate and compelling message of unity for the body of Christ.
From 1983 to 1989, they served as youth pastors in San José, California. For the next eleven years (1989-2000), they launched and pastored a thriving ministry in Elk Grove, California, called Harvest Church. Joined by a team of committed friends, they saw Harvest grow from a desire in their hearts to over 1,500 people. During that time, they also helped start seven more churches. In 2001, Scott and Karen moved to Michigan to lead an historic church in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Over the last four and a half years, they have brought city churches together in unity and motivated their own congregation to become a “church that looks like heaven.” In recognition for their leadership in the city, they received the 2005 “Martin Luther King Leadership Award.”
Now a new mission from God fills their hearts. The mission to see blended, life-giving churches started all over the world.
